Project countries & initiatives
Today, Dental Health Without Borders is active in five countries, where each project is tailored to local needs and builds on partnerships with local organisations. Explore our current and past projects below.
Current projects
Rwanda
Since 2016, we have been working with SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda to set up school dental care programmes across the country. Together, we are working to make daily toothbrushing and health education part of everyday school life, and we are training local teachers and health workers to continue this work.
Palestine
The ASMA project – Arabic for ‘Healthy Teeth, Better Future’ – is being carried out in collaboration with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS), a nationwide Palestinian NGO. Since the project began, we have introduced daily toothbrushing and preventive education at selected project schools in the West Bank.
Guatemala
In collaboration with our local partner PRODESSA, we are running a three-year programme in schools in the province of Baja Verapaz and in four new provinces, where we reach a total of more than 8,000 children and are working with national authorities to roll out our school dental care model nationwide.
Bolivia
Since 2025, we have been working with a local partner, Fundación Machaqa Amawta (FMA), on a two-year project in La Paz and El Alto, which began in 2026. The project involves 2,000 children at nine state primary schools and includes daily toothbrushing, health education in both Spanish and local languages, and emergency dental treatment.
Ghana
In partnership with the local organisation REEP – which has more than ten years’ experience of school and community development in northern Ghana – we are running the LAUGH project in the districts of Kumbungu, Tolon and Savelugu. Here, a single dentist serves more than 350,000 people. The project trains teachers, volunteers and local leaders in preventive dental care and ensures that children suffering from acute pain are referred for treatment.
