About the dental missions
Being deployed with Dental Health Without Borders is a unique opportunity to make a difference whilst developing both personally and professionally.
Are you a dentist, dental assistant, dental hygienist or a student of dentistry?
Then you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a dental mission.
A dental mission is for anyone who supports the aims of Dental Health Without Borders and would like to contribute directly in the field.
We are working to improve children’s dental health in countries with limited access to dental care and to create better conditions for their wellbeing, learning and schooling.
As a volunteer, you’ll encounter people, cultures, working conditions and challenges that will give you new perspectives on both your profession and your everyday life.
If you’d like to take your professional skills out into the world and return home with valuable experience, an overseas placement could be a meaningful way to make a difference.

We’ll take care of the planning
We make it simple and safe to go on a mission. Dental Health Without Borders coordinates all dental missions and takes care of planning both the project and your deployment. We take care of the practical arrangements – including hotel bookings, transport, equipment and insurance – so you can focus on your work.
You pay a single, all-inclusive package price, which makes it simple and secure to be deployed.
The price of the package is 11,000 DKK excluding the cost of the flight.

What is included in the package price?
Food & accommodation
Accommodation, breakfast, and lunch are included throughout your stay.
Materials & equipment
All clinical equipment and necessary materials will be provided during the dental mission.
Local transport
We’ll organise local transport throughout your stay, including shared transport to and from the airport and to the project site.
Insurance
Travel and liability insurance is included for the duration of the assignment, so you can set off with peace of mind.
Introduction & preparation
Prior to departure, you’ll complete an online induction covering your day-to-day work, local culture, and key practical details for your stay.
Support during the broadcast
You will be assigned a dedicated contact person from the secretariat and will travel with a team leader.
The extra
As part of the programme, you’ll also be provided with an interpreter if required, a T-shirt, a group farewell dinner and a certificate at the end of your stay.
This is not included in the package price
There are a few expenses that are not included in the package price and which you will need to cover yourself:
- - Flight tickets
- - Vaccinations and any malaria medication
- - Membership of Dental Health Without Borders

A typical week as a foreign service officer
Sunday
We set up the clinic.
Monday–Friday
Clinical work from 8 am to 4 pm, followed by teaching and debriefing in the afternoon.
Saturday
A local visit, a cultural programme or a day off.

The application portal will open as soon as the dates are set. Missions take place throughout the spring, summer, and fall, with applications opening at least 3 months in advance. In the meantime, you are always welcome to send an open application to dentalmission@dhwb.dk.
